Ultimate Desert Safari Guide in Dubai

Everything you need to know about desert safari in Dubai — what to expect, the different types, how to choose a tour, pricing, and how to make the most of the experience.

The Arabian Desert stretching beyond Dubai is one of the most dramatic landscapes on Earth — vast, ancient, and deeply atmospheric. A desert safari is not just an add-on to a Dubai trip; for most visitors, it becomes the centrepiece memory of their entire UAE experience.

    Types of Desert Safari

Standard Group Safari: Departs around 3pm, returns by 10pm. Typically includes dune bashing, camel riding, sandboarding, henna, a Bedouin-style dinner camp with music and entertainment. Prices from AED 125–195 per person.

Private Desert Safari: Same or expanded itinerary but with your own guide and vehicle. Prices from AED 600 per group. Highly recommended for couples and families with specific dietary needs or timings.

Morning Safari: A calmer, less crowded experience. Light dune bashing followed by a walk through the dunes. No dinner, no shows. Best for photography and peaceful desert immersion.

Overnight Safari: Sleep in a Bedouin tent under the desert sky. Wake to a sunrise breakfast. One of the most memorable experiences the UAE offers. From AED 700+ per person.

    The Dune Bashing Experience

Dune bashing in a modified Land Cruiser is the highlight for most visitors. The driver deflates the tyres to around 15–18 PSI for better grip, then navigates the dunes at speed — sharp drops, steep climbs, hard turns. It is thrilling by design. Seatbelts are always worn. Motion sickness sufferers should consider taking tablets in advance.

    The Bedouin Camp

After dune bashing, your group arrives at a decorated Bedouin camp. Dinner usually includes a mix of Middle Eastern dishes: grilled meats, rice, salads, and flatbreads. Entertainment typically includes belly dancing, tanoura spinning, and occasionally falconry demonstrations. The shisha pipe and henna tattoos are available for those interested.

    What to Wear and Bring

Light, loose clothing is ideal — it gets cold at night in the desert during winter months. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a light jacket for October to March. Shoes you don't mind filling with sand. Leave your best jewellery at the hotel.
